Lenten Concerts - Servitenkirche

Sat, Mar 23

|

Vienna

This year there is something quite unusual: I am organizing 3 Lenten concerts in the Servitenkirche. These concerts are an attempt to rediscover Lent and serve as preparation for Easter. Before each piece there are reflections that invite you to meditate on the pieces.

About the event

This series of events is a hybrid between a concert and meditation.

Many people are not aware that many classical works that are suitable for Lent were originally intended as musical spiritual meditations. To raise this awareness, three Lenten concerts are taking place this year in the Servitenkirche in Vienna's 9th district:

On February 24th at 5 pm Fabiola Matarelli will sing the following works:

- Jerusalem (from Paulus) by Mendelssohn

- Let us sing of the grace of the Lord (from Paulus) by Mendelssohn

- My Soul Thirsties for God by Mendelssohn

- Blute nur (from St. Matthew Passion) by Bach

- Lord, O Lord, you were a refuge (Psalm 90) by Lenius

- Prayer by Wolf

- Make me a channel of your peace (Prayer of St. Francis) by Temple

- The Lord bless you and keep you by Rutter

Before each song there will be an introduction to the mystery of this song in the form of a short meditative reflection. During this concert and afterwards there will be the opportunity to talk to a priest if that is desired and questions arise.

on March 9th at 5 pm Barbara Marie-Louise Pavelka will sing

"The 7 Last Words of Jesus" by Haydn in an arrangement for solo voice.

Here, too, there are reflections before each piece and since there is a 24-hour worship service on this day, this concert follows on from it.

on 23 March at 5 pm Fabiola Matarelli and Barbara Marie-Louise Pavelka will sing

"Stabat Mater" by Pergolesi

Here, too, there are introductory considerations.

The entrance fee is a free donation that benefits the church, which still has to pay a considerable part of the renovation work.

We look forward to welcoming you!

Please bring a generous donation.
